Spousal Surcharge

Beginning 1/1/2025 there will be a $120 per month surcharge on coverage for spouses and domestic partners who choose not to enroll in coverage available through their own employer. This surcharge is in addition to the monthly premium the employee pays.

This is a common way for employers to manage rising healthcare costs while keeping health plans affordable for employees and family members who do not have access to other employer-provided coverage.

This monthly surcharge will not apply to TCCA employees who elect to cover their spouse/ domestic partner on our TCCA plan and sign a legal affidavit confirming that their  spouse/domestic partner either:

  • Does not have access to employer-provided insurance; or

  • Enrolls in their own employer’s insurance as their primary coverage and elects TCCA coverage as their secondary insurance.

Employees covering their spouse that do not qualify for the spousal surcharge credit, or don't complete the affidavit, will pay a higher premium. Employees covering their spouse will need to complete an affidavit annually. â€‹
